I ride motor cycles and several years ago and several blocks from my house was a little cottage like house and a little old man that always sat in his chair as we would go by.
He'd wave and we waved back but never spoke to each other, this went on for well over a year, one afternoon close to Christmas my wife said lets get the old man a hat "a Harley hat" .
We did and presented it to him just for being an old guy that never wore a hat out side, thought he would cry , a little statured man bent over with arthritis who spoke no English shook my hand and kissed the wifes hand in gratitude.
Christmas day came with a knock at the door and as i opened the door i saw a overly dressed in his best cowboy clothes the little mexican man in a walker holding a foil pack of Tamales, it was the old man from down the street from us.
The young man helping him explained that it was an old Mexican tradition of giving Tamales as gifts at Christmas from where the old man was from.
Never saw the old man after that but found out that his wife passed away and three months later he passed.
so back to the rod.
Was driving buy one afternoon and saw this guy at the old mans house throwing out all kind of junk, in amongst the junk was a hand full of assorted rods, well worn rods i might add.
I asked if i could have them and was readily given them and after inspection of the old rods and forty some odd years of leaning on the garage wall wound up with 3 that might be repairable "might".
This will be the first one and i plan on calling it "The Old Man" even though it will be for my Sister in law and even though you cant see much, i stripped it back down to the raw fiberglass and clear coated it just cause i like the natural color of the rod, next is the eyes starting today!
more as i progress.
