Replacing Custom Rods....

I would like to hear from other rodbuilders about the how, when or where of replacing a custom rod, that you think is questionable.... I just had a incident where I was told the rod broke when bringing in a fish....come to find out it was a splintered break, which meant the rod was crushed in some manner.....
